Cocoalicious Body Butter Recipe
By Amanda Rose Klenner, CCH
When I first started making my own body care products, it was really just to reduce the chemical load I was putting on my body. Little did I know how simple and luxurious homemade bath and body care could be. I absolutely love this easy body butter. Not only does it whip up beautifully, but it smells delightful and can be dressed up however you like. The ingredients couldn’t be simpler, more natural, or better for your skin. I often have people say that it smells good enough to eat! I wouldn’t recommend it though: Dad tried it and said it isn’t nearly as tasty as it looks (although it isn’t harmful).
Ingredients:
1 C cocoa butter
1/2 C coconut oil
1/2 C herb-infused oil (I love calendula-infused olive oil, but you can use almond, jojoba, olive, meadow foam, or any combination of oils you like)
10-15 drops essential oils of your choice (completely optional, but mint is always a delightful addition to cocoa)
Directions:
Melt the cocoa butter and coconut oil together using the double-boiler method in a large Pyrex bowl.
Once they are completely melted together, remove the mixture from the heat.
Add the olive oil and essential oils.
Let it sit until it cools. In the winter, letting it sit outside is the fastest way for it to cool down. (If you plan to use a hand mixer with a whisk, do not let it solidify completely. Rather, start to mix it as soon as a hardened layer forms on the sides of the bowl. If you’re using a stand mixer or hand beaters you can wait until it is cooled to almost solid.)
Beat the oil mixture until it turns white and forms peaks.
Put the butter into a container of your choice and enjoy the luxurious moisturizing power of this great body butter!
This recipe makes about enough body butter to fill one 20-ounce flip-top container.
